Most outdoor saunas are classed as permitted development, similar to a garden studio. Larger cabins, conservation areas, or listed properties may require approval, so it’s worth checking in advance.
A solid, level, and well-drained base is essential. We recommend a reinforced concrete slab, paving stones, or a timber deck with ventilation. This ensures stability, insulation performance, and longevity.
The power requirement depends on the sauna size and heater:Smaller saunas (2–4 person) usually require a single-phase 230V supply, typically 16–25 amps.
Larger saunas (6–10 person or commercial models) often require three-phase 400V, 20–32 amps per phase.
Wood-fired saunas need no electrical supply, except for optional lighting or accessories.We always confirm the exact power requirements with each quotation, so your electrician can prepare the correct supply.
All Ember and Ice saunas are modular kits, designed for straightforward assembly. Many clients opt for DIY to save on installation costs. Professional installation is available from £1,200–£4,000 + VAT, depending on the model and complexity. This includes full assembly, wiring, and weatherproofing.
Our Ember and Ice x Auroom and Squared Barrel saunas are designed for year-round outdoor use. Built from thermally treated timbers, insulated wall panels, and weatherproof cladding, they perform in all seasons and will last for decades with simple maintenance such as oiling the exterior and sealing glass joints.
